For those sailors who started their learning journey at Live-in 2025, and wish to continue learning for the rest of the season :) $200 will cover coaching every Sunday for the rest of the season (until April), both for Optis and Flying 11s. Once registered, a confirmation email will be sent to you with essential information: please read it!
The pathway for Juniors at NSC looks like:
- Learn-to-Sail (LTS) ~ 3-6 weeks - you are here*
- Green Fleet ~ 1 Season
- Transition Fleet ~ 1 Season (+ start crewing on an F11)
- Open Fleet ~ until big enough to move into an F11
- Flying 11s (a bigger boat, for bigger kids 12+) - *or here
- Side Mission - becoming an Instructor!
- NS14s/MG14s/Tasars/Lasers 16+
Most of your kids will begin in Plastic Optis (heavy duty training boats), which are provided and maintained freely by the club for beginners. They will learn in these boats until such time as our instructors deem that they are ready to progress into our higher Opti Fleets (the "Green", "Intermediate", and "Open Fleets"), at which point they will need their own
Fibreglass Optimist. I expect this to take 3-6 weeks. We ask for a 100% attendance rate during the LTS phase, as lessons are taught as a cohort and it is very difficult to catch-up kids who missed key lessons. See confirmation email for more details.
If your child sailed Flying 11s at Live-in, they will continue in this fleet as a crew.
