This season Northbridge Sailing Club is undertaking only one adult learn to sail course. The Spring course is held over three consecutive weekends on October 30/31st, November 6th/7th and Saturday November 13th 2021, 10am to 1pm. We encourage graduates to then sail our club boats in the regular racing competition, with possibilities to use club boats on later days.

This is in response to the interest shown by parents of junior sailors currently undergoing training at NSC, by current junior member’s parents and non or lapsed sailors outside the club. And why not; the ability to enjoy Sydney Harbour from the water on a craft powered by Mother Nature is surely one of the great highlights of living near one of the most iconic waterways in the world! At Northbridge we are blessed in that we are the only sailing club operating on most of Middle Harbour, a quiet (no ferries!) picturesque inlet with ideal sail-training conditions, which we share regularly with penguins, ospreys, seals, and even the occasional whale.

Slide 1

For parents of junior or budding junior sailors it also means a first-hand understanding of the challenges and pleasures their children are experiencing on the water sailing boats!

The course gives an introduction to sailing involving rigging, crewing and helming one of the club’s Pacer or Laser dinghies along with an experienced and qualified instructor.

Senior sailors of the club will be present over the course session to offer encouragement and support with the view that on the following Sunday (or the club days following) those who are keen can have a go in a club Laser or Pacer to show off the skills acquired over the previous weeks (or not!). The aim is to enjoy the experience and hopefully seed the desire to carry on sailing…!

The club can arrange for use of the Pacers and Lasers on club days for interested graduates following the course. Indeed some may feel confident to put their hand up for crewing in a Tasar or NS14 in the senior ranks or have a few more goes in a club Laser following completion of this introductory course, for as ‘Ratty’ in ‘Wind in the Willows’ so poignantly said, ‘nothing – absolutely nothing – is half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats!’

Our wonderful instructors are long-standing club members, all with Australian Sailing Instructor or Assistant Instructor qualifications.

As places are limited please register sooner rather than later!
